u.s. credit rating had been downgraded. later in 2011 the dow lost 316 points in the four days after the super committee failed to come up with a deal that would have averted the sequester. but wall street seems to be getting use to the crises now. today despite the president's dire warnings about the sequester, the dow and s&p are at five-year house. nasdaq is at a 12 year high and the dow is essentially a trading day away from its all-time high set in 2007. what is going on here? joining me, steve leaseman, also the other half of steve. columnist for the "washington post." so guys, i'm a little perplexed here. becky, let me start with you. wall street, do they just not believe washington anymore. we're on our fifth one. have they discounted all of the hype over this next crisis? >> i think this one's actually a little bit different, chuck. we've been talking to a lot of strategyists and a lot of investors who actually say, a lot of them, increasing number of them, that they think succession will happen and still positive on stocks. i'm scratching my head because particularly

afghanistan, president hamid karzai ordered u.s. special forces to leave a province within two weeks after he said aftforces were "harassi annoying, torturing and murdering innocent people." so far the u.s.-led coalition in afghanistan has not found any evidence to support karzai's allegations. the province is a strategically important region neighboring the capital. >>> swedish furniture giant ikea halted the sale of their meatballs in some shops on concerns that they contained horse meat. check inspectors found horse meat in a special batch of meatballs made in sweden, able in 13 different european countries. ikea has stopped selling that special batch of meatballs and all markets where they had been sold. i didn't know ikea was selling meatballs. >>> politics packed a punch at last night's oscars. ambassador was missing. there was a direct attack of some kind on a u.s. mission even though they didn't know all the details. so he was trying to press them and both panetta and dempsey said they department speak to the president or to hillary clinton personally. while there is a sort of apparatus in the white house to keep a president informed, they made it clear they weren't talking to anybody at the white house during the hours when this was just really on fire both figu figuratively and literally and graham was making the point no one knew how long the assault would last and so he was raising questions about why wasn't more military force and readiness available. there's a lot still not understood about benghazi and what happened and certainly people in both parties but we heard a lot from republicans who want to look even more closely even as panetta leaves this job. >> and we heard obviously something that has been a common republ republican refrain. you heard it during the questioning of hillary clinton over benghazi. kelly o'donnell, it's been busy on the hill. thanks for stayin
